Welcome Back Open Reading June 29

Welcome Back Open Reading

The Literary Committee of the Arts Consortium of Carver County invites you to join us for a “Welcome Back” Open Reading at the Chaska Community Center on June 29 at 7pm in the Theater of the Chaska Community Center.  Poets and Prose writers are invited to share their work at the open mic.  Please limit your selection(s) to 5 minutes in length in order to allow as many as possible to read. This is a good opportunity to read a recent publication, something you wrote last year, or a piece from a new book.

We have been separated for so long by the pandemic, we’d like to use this open reading as an opportunity to welcome each other back to in-person events.  A bonus of the evening will be the open ACCC gift shop and a chance to see the gallery exhibit Express Yourself in Purple in honor of Prince.

Express Yourself in Purple June 17

Express Yourself in Purple: Artists’ Reception and Honorary Celebration for Prince

We invite the public to get into the theme of Purple for the Express Yourself in Purple Artists’ Reception. Join us as you sip wine while you enjoy a still life painting or photography depicting grapes and wine to a sculpture painted in purple or representations of a floral garden in purple. A study in Purple….is where we’re at.  We’re excited to see you at the Gallery, where all walls are decked in the color Purple and the inspirations of our member and guest artists. Wear purple and your name is entered into a door prize drawing!

In conjunction with the Artists’ Reception, the ACCC will honor Prince posthumously as our 2021 Honorary Member of the ACCC this evening. We celebrate with live music, guest speakers and more. As his favorite color was purple… it’s natural to bring everyone together as we paint the County Purple for the month of June. Join in the County wide event, Purple Reigns. Purple Reigns is approved by the Prince Estate, Paisley Park.

And if you like it, you can become a regular volunteer at the Center! Center hours are listed above. The Arts Center Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to you after artists have been accepted for the Holiday Gift Show and share the available shifts.  Please have your calendars ready when you drop off your artwork so you can sign up for an open shift at that time.

We have climbed the mountain as we have continued to add more programs and events to serve you as part of our community. With this in mind, we have also pulled together to make these events happen even in times of need. We are a volunteer based organization and we know there will eventually be changes in how we and our volunteers continue to serve the ACCC community. Our succession plan needs help at this time due to scheduling and unforeseen work obligations. We have openings currently in our board leadership at this time and we are making a call to our community to step in and help us continue the strong path for the ACCC.

I appreciate all of our board members, liaisons and committee members who have faithfully served in the past and will continue to serve the community and lead the ACCC into the future. Without our board members, volunteers and our committee members, we would not have been able to accomplish as much has we have, thank you so very much! We are asking YOU as part of our community to consider a term of service as we are looking for new board members and volunteers who are excited to step in to our growing organization and help to bring us into the future.
