Water Exhibit at Sower Gallery

“Water” Highlighted in a New Show at The Sower Gallery

Beginning April 17th and continuing until May 27th.

The show, about “water in all its forms” includes art that celebrates ice, snow, rain, clouds, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, and oceans. Over 22 artists from the local regional area and nationwide are contributing to honoring its beauty and purpose as well as the demise of our Earth’ s most precious resource.

The Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, from 7-9 PM at the gallery, and is free and open to the public. Many artists will attend, and refreshments will be available. The gallery is at Shepherd of the Hill Church, 145 Engler Blvd. Chaska. Gallery hours are 9:30 – 12:30 daily, with some variable late afternoon hours to be announced. Information about the artists, their work, and the gallery’s hours and events during this show can be found on The Sower Gallery Facebook page.

Gallery Director Susan Lince says, “In this ‘land of 10,000 lakes’ it is sometimes easy to take for granted the abundance and the beauty of our water resources. We hope this art will help all of us continue to be mindful of taking care of water, and of what can happen when clean water is polluted, or gone. Both climate change and human activities around the world are altering the supply of clean water for many people and many uses. We hope this show continues to keep us awake to water issues affecting us all. It is Earth’s most precious resource.”

This show will include visual art of local and regional, as well as artists invited from other parts of the country. The show highlights water in all its forms, to remind us that “water is life” on this changing planet.
The show’s opening will be on Saturday April 22nd from 7-9 PM. It will include some artists who have not shown before in The Sower Gallery.

Grant Award

Sower Gallery and Seniors The Sower Gallery has just received a $5620 grant from the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area which will provide specialized docent training for engaging seniors from local care facilities in the art at the gallery. The grant trains 4 docents in Museum Sage and Time Slips methods, and is designed as an outreach to seniors that will enrich and validate them through art and conversation.
These visits have already started on a pilot basis with groups from Auburn, Chaska Heights, and Beehive Homes, but the grant will be fully implemented through trained docents by late Spring 2017.

We are inviting musicians and song writers to contact Steve Kelzer if you are interested in participating in the creation of the 3rd ACCC CD.

Seeking current and former Carver County residents.

Original work only, no covers.

Volumes I and II are available for purchase on the ACCC website and the current Volume is given to new members as they join. 100% of the proceeds from the CD sales are donated to the ACCC.

SOWER GALLERY’S ARTIST EXHIBITION EXPLORES FAITH, HOPE & HEALING THROUGH ART

The Sower Gallery will be host to a unique art exhibit and book launch by MInnesota artist and long-time creative agency executive Scott Sample. Nearly two decades in the making, this exhibit is both a retrospective and an unveiling, featuring a selection of his most pivotal and deeply personal pieces, some seldom shown publicly. Scott’s highly evocative art chronicles his journey from disillusioned, grieving father, to hopeful explorer, to a man of deep faith and conviction.

Scott has a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design and an MFA from Kent State University. Over decades, he has received numerous awards and recognition for his art from many sources, and has five published books about his art, including Like a Prayer, which is available at this show. Scott’s resume includes Instructor and Guest Lecturer at a number of art institutions including Boston College, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Minnesota, and Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Scott is the CEO of Initio Advertising, Minneapolis

The show, beginning Nov. 22nd, spans the Holiday season, often experienced by many of us as a time that is filled with glitter, bustle, and excess. Scott’s art offers a contrast, an opportunity to reflect and renew a sense of thankfulness, hope, and peace.

Of his art, Scott says:“Creating art is a continual process of moving forward, pulling back, and looking for the whole story. This ebb and flow is the core of my inspiration. Such tension compels me to bring image and spirit to life through painting.”

Many of his works are constructs, building visual concepts with materials like oil on plaster, wood, copper, and glass. He is intrigued with letting the materials help determine the process and tell a story. This organic method allows him to look inward for meaning, embracing the tools of metaphor, icon, symbol, and words.

“Art has taught me that life is not always about what we bring, contribute, or add. Often, it’s what we take away, or don’t say, that makes a moment sublime. As I give myself more to the Spirit these works have become like visual Prayers.”

Scott approaches his work with a prayerful, meditative spirit. In his book about his art, Like a Prayer, he says, “It is my highest aim to create works that bring forward questions and dialogue of belief.”

Scott’s book, as well as originals and prints of his art, will be for sale at the gallery. An Artist’s Reception will be held from 6-9 on Friday December 2nd. It is free, and the public is welcome.

Sower Gallery Presents Fiber Artist Jennifer A Schultz

Hello Fellow Artists and Friends,

The Sower Gallery is so pleased to display the work of Twin Cities fiber artist Jennifer A. Schultz. The show started April 4th and will be in the gallery until May 22nd. You can see glimpses of it on the Facebook page for the Sower Gallery, but it is best seen in person. Her work is delicate, complex, and full of meaning. (See the article about this show in the Chaska Herald paper.)

The Sower Gallery is located at the Shepherd of the Hill Church, 145 Engler Blvd., Chaska, and is open to the public. All of her work is for sale. The gallery is open Sundays through Thursdays from 9-1.
