Barn Quilt
The Art Tourism Committee has been working with the County on a barn quilt for the Baylor Regional Park barn in Norwood Young America. This newest barn quilt will join the ever growing open air art gallery of 45+ barn quilts across the County. It is projected to be installed this summer. Carver County artist, Suzanne Theisfeld has designed the quilt.
The Arts Consortium and Art Tourism Committee had previously invited the public to participate in a naming contest to “name” this latest new barn quilt. The winner will be announced at the Taste of NYA on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the Willkommen Memorial Park, in Norwood Young America.

Elements of the quilt include maple leaves to represent the seasons and maple syrup production. DETAILS
Named in honor of Bill Monroe, “The Father of Bluegrass Music,” Monroe Crossing dazzles audiences with an electrifying blend of classic bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, original bluegrass and even selections outside the bluegrass genre. Their superb musicianship and on-stage rapport have entertained audiences across the United States, Canada and Europe.
For nearly 20 years this Minnesota based band has averaged over 100 shows a year. They love introducing newcomers to bluegrass music!
Monroe Crossing is made up of five very distinct personalities with differing musical backgrounds. When combined, their individual histories make for a unique sound. The three original members are: Mark Anderson (bass), Lisa Fuglie (fiddle & lead vocals) and Matt Thompson (mandolin & harmony vocals). Derek Johnson (guitar & lead vocals) joined in 2011. David Robinson (banjo, dobro & backing vocals) joined in 2012 and now performs with the band on a part-time basis. In 2007, Monroe Crossing was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. They have twice been selected to showcase at the annual World of Bluegrass convention hosted by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and they have appeared twice at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2016, Monroe Crossing had the honor of being the first Minnesota bluegrass band to perform in South Korea.

Greetings Arts Consortium of Carver County Members, Friends, and enthusiasts!! We are heading into summer with sunshine and a full event schedule! The event line-up for the summer sets the stage for the ACCC to meet its mission: to strengthen our community through the arts – and cultivate the arts through the community.
Have an amazing June, be well and keep creating!
Our latest exhibit, Express Yourself in Purple, opens June 2. We are excited to see what our community of artists have created to honor Prince. We will honor Prince posthumously as our 2021 Honorary Member of the ACCC at the Artist’s Reception. As his favorite color was purple… it’s natural to bring everyone together as we “paint the County Purple” for the month of June. Purple Reigns is approved by the Prince Estate, Paisley Park.
Be sure to stop into the ACCC Gift Shop in June and pick up your free Purple mini – swag kit to start decorating your home or business!! Fun for the whole family!

Take photos of every “purple” expression and share on social media using #purplereigns2021.
The purpose of this event is trifold:
To honor Prince. The ACCC is posthumously naming him Honorary Member, 2021.
