The Arts Consortium of Carver County is Moving to the Chaska Community Center

The Arts Consortium of Carver County is moving our Gallery & Gift Shop into the Chaska Community Center to provide much needed socially distanced space for artists, members, shoppers and guests. We plan to open with the Members’ Show Exhibit in the gallery of the Chaska Community Center. The ACCC Members’ Show opens October 7, 2020.

This move allows the ACCC an opportunity to increase the impact for members, artists and the communities of Carver County by partnering with the Chaska Community Center. The theater, the gallery and larger space will allow for more art to be displayed as well as being able to hold more functions to showcase local live music and literary readings. The Holiday Market featuring local and regional artists is set to open November 4th.

We have a great connection and we welcome the openness that the Chaska Community Center provides. We are working to bring more online projects on board as well as some socially distanced activities. We look to reignite our programming during the COVID-19 pandemic through exhibits with social distancing, online and in class/learning opportunities in the works, retail functioning with social distancing and online sales in place, etc. We have an exceptional team of board members and volunteers and we are excited for our new future.

Literary News

The ACCC Literary Committee is excited to announce a live, virtual poem reading coming in October. Poems from the Heartland:  Minnesota Poet Laureate Joyce Sutphen will read poems of hers that people have loved, anthologized, set to music or in other ways held dear. Join us October 19, 2020 at 7pm for an evening of fine poetry you will not want to miss in these hard times. Please email the Literary Committee (literary@artsofcarvercounty.org) by October 16, 2020, to pre-register for this event. An email containing the link for the Zoom event to this live reading event will be sent out the day before (October 18th). Joyce will also answer any reader/viewer questions if submitted via Literary Committee email prior to the event (submission cut off for questions is October 16, 2020 so Joyce has time to prepare).

48-Hour Writing Contest Winners
The Literary Committee of the Arts Consortium of Carver County (ACCC) would like to thank all those who participated in our 48 Hr Writing Contest! We had many fantastic entrants and it caused many heated debates over who our top picks would be, though we have finally narrowed down our top picks to two entrants in the poetry portion of the contest. The winners are Ghost Flower by Kara Thom and Sky by Shannon Wetzel. You can read the winning entries on our website.

Creating Through COVID

Mary WilliamsonAs the Board has been adjusting and keeping up with all of the changes we are experiencing due to change in physical location as well as COVID, we have been working towards a couple new interactive platforms.

Online education has swept across the world as students and businesses have needed to accommodate their employees in training or students in schools.  As a non-profit, we are no different, we want to continue to add value to your experience with the ACCC.

As an art instructor I have realigned my own teaching to online.  It has allowed me to stay in touch with students and continue their lessons as well as reach so many more than I ever could have by myself in my studio. If you’d like help coordinating an online class to teach, please reach out to us at classes@artsofcarvercounty.org with your ideas. We can help bring your craft, skills, technique or instrument to our audience. You can also learn more on our How to Submit A Class page.
